Alkylation
Synthesis process in which the recombination of an olefin and an isoparaffin, under the action of a catalyst to form hydrocarbons from C3 and C4, an "alkylating" (IC7 to IC9) with an octane rating around 100, which makes it of great value as a component of gasoline for motors.
API gravity
Density expressed in degrees API, originally defined by the American Petroleum Institute, using the following formula: API ° = (141.5 / g) - 131.5 where g is the density of oil at 60 º F (15.5 C). It is internationally used to refer to the crude oil density, the higher is the API gravity, and lighter is the crude.
Aromatics
Group of unsaturated cyclic hydrocarbons characterized by having at least one benzene ring and are known for aromatic due to its distinctive sweet aroma. The most common aromatics include benzene, toluene and xylene.
Atmospheric distillation
Distillation of crude oil at atmospheric pressure which results in different oil fractions (light or heavy gasoline, diesel and heavy products, for example). These fractions, after treatment, are the components of finished products.
