Emergency management

Galp Energia has a proactive attitude towards the risks inherent to the activities the Company engages in, as well as a commitment to transparency in the information provided to the community

Procedures have been implemented at Galp Energia to prevent the occurrence of serious accidents which may place people, the environment, property, the business and the Company’s image at risk. These procedures allow us to minimize the consequences of situations which may have arisen from outside the Company but which have negative repercussions for its activity, and ensure that the normal state of affairs is rapidly restored.

Focus has been placed on prevention, although the capacity to manage emergencies has not been neglected. To do this, it is essential to first identify the existing risks, emergency scenarios and the respective consequences.

Emergency management is conducted on a systematic basis, both in the area of Exploration and Production in Brazil, and in the activities involving the refining and trading of oil products in the Iberian Peninsula and Africa and the distribution of natural gas, in order to define internal emergency plans for all of our facilities.

Based on the risk scenarios identified, actions are planned to ensure the rapid intervention of internal and external means as well as articulation with the important authorities and/or organizations, always following the principle of safeguarding people, the environment and property.

All those within Galp Energia’s facilities, activities or services who are required to act should emergency plans be activated are guaranteed the provision of full training and information.

Emergency plan tests are carried out periodically (mock emergencies and periodic simulation exercises). These test the various risk scenarios identified and the response of all players. Based on the results obtained and a critical analysis, the emergency plans are continuously updated.
